Ice Axe and Crampon Seminar

This course is a great introduction to the finer points of climbing snow. Our goal is to give you a well rounded understanding of the techniques required to safely and efficiently move through alpine terrain. This course allows the new alpine climbing enthusiast a safe and comfortable way to gain a solid foundation to move through challenging terrain.

Topics covered:

  • Modern equipment selection, fitting, and usage.
  • Equipment maintenance.
  • Footwork techniques such as:
    • French technique
    • Step cutting
    • Track setting
  • Ice axe technique
  • Self arresting
  • Intro to mountaineering jugement considerations.

TRIP ITINERARY: Winter Mountaineering Seminar

DAY 1

 

Introduction to the ice axe, footwork without crampons, self arrest, ascending and descending with axe, rope work and belays. Crampons, cutting steps, snow climbing tour, and snow anchors.

  • All you need for this course is a sense of adventure and good physical fitness. 

Included:

  • AMGA trained and certified guide
  • All necessary permits
  • Any needed equipment: Ice axe, crampons, harnesses, etc.

Not Included:

  • Lunches and drinks
  • Transportation to and from location
