Mt. Thompson North Couloirs You'll find Mt. Thompson just Northwest of Mt. Gilbert. Part of the rim of the same cirque Mt. Thompson has several couloirs to choose from. We'll choose the best one depending on the time of year and conditions. A fun way to get more climbing in is to do more than one couloir or add a day to your trip and climb the Gilbert couloir as well.
The approach for Mt. Thompson starts from the South Lake trail head. Start up the Bishop Pass trail and break off at the Treasure Lakes trail. Follow ledges and slabs to the cirque at the base of Gilbert and Thompson and camp. There will be time on day one to practice skills and get tuned up for the climb.
Day 2
Climb one of the North Couloirs and return to camp. Pack up and head back to the cars.
